A backsplash is a great way to introduce style into your kitchen and increase the value of your home. Finding the right backsplash takes time and patience, but when done correctly is well worth the results.

Your backsplash should complement the countertops, cabinets and appliances. If you have a countertop with a busy pattern, it is best to stick with a plain backsplash. Pay attention to the color theme that runs through your kitchen and choose a backsplash that stays with that theme.

Assess The Situation

Your backsplash needs to be functional as well as beautiful. The utility of your kitchen can help you determine what sort of material you need. If you do a lot of heavy duty cooking on a regular basis, a stainless steel backsplash may be perfect for you. If you merely use your kitchen as a place to boil your kettle, a tile that does not hold up as well under wear may work better for your needs.
