Dishwashers collect small bits of debris and get stains on the walls over time. It isn’t always the easiest thing to clean. However, utilizing this simple trick can be greatly simplify this task.
Take 1-2 cup of household vinegar and drop it in the bottom of the dishwasher and run on an empty cycle. The vinegar will cycle through the whole system. This will help clean the piping, surfaces, and the spray arm.
Make sure that it is set on a cycle that will be adding heat. Warmer fluids usually do a much better job of cleaning. After the cycle is completed, open the door and check for any remaining spots. Use a rag or paper towel to remove them. Spots and stains should come off much easier now. If some spots are tougher to remove, try using an all-purpose homemade cleaning solution along with a nylon brush.
If needed, you can always do an extra cycle, but this shouldn’t be required. When the trick works as expected it can lower the amount of dishwasher maintenance required and make your life a little easier.
