Replacing dated lighting is an easy and relatively cheap home improvement project. I was able to replace an overhead light with an IKEA pendant light in about 30 minutes for $37.
The wire nuts should have enough strength to hold the pendant wiring and cover while you grab the mounting screws. Attach these screws to secure the pendant kit. Grab the shade and attach it to the light socket with the plastic fastener.
Insert in a light bulb that is within the maximum wattage. Flip the circuit breaker to restore power. If it trips immediately, do not try to reactivate it. Shut if back off and take a look the wiring. There is usually a wire that came loose from a wire nut. If the breaker doesn’t trip, test the light by flipping the light switch. Did it work? Success! Don’t be afraid to call an electrician if you can’t fix it or you are uncomfortable with electrical work.
