One of the best (and easiest) steps you can take for preventing a dryer fire is emptying the lint trap after every load. Most homeowners stay vigilant with this task. It is easy to remember and dramatically improves the performance of the dryer. However, many homeowners forget to schedule annual maintenance for the dryer that involves a deep cleaning.

Dryer Lint Trap and Door

Pull out the lint trap and clean it off as you would for regular maintenance, but instead of putting it back into the unit, set it aside for right now. Use a duster or hand utility from a vacuum to clean out the lint trap chamber from debris that has managed to make it past the filter. Use a damp rag to remove buildup that is tough to vacuum off.  Likewise, use a damp rag to clean around the perimeter of the door.
