Home Improvement New Year's Resolutions

If you are anything like me, the last week of the year is a flurry of reflection and planning. One area I am being even more deliberate about making specific goals is in the area of my home, and I thought I would share a few.

1. Clean out the garage. In the five years that we have been in our home, a car has fit in the garage exactly one time. I think we’ve resolved to allow the garage to not be home to a vehicle, but it has to become functional! There are several projects I’m tracking in HomeSpot HQ for my garage, but for 2011, just getting the clutter out and some improved storage and organization in will be significant.

2. Extend our Deck in the back yard. Ever since we’ve put up a swingset and the kids spend more time in the back yard, we’ve wanted to have a lower deck. Something around the 12×12 range, with built in benches and planters. For months I’ve been recording articles in HomeSpot for this project, and I hope that 2011 will be the time when we can execute on that project to make the summer months even more enjoyable outside.

3. Install a new liner in our crawl space. This one is just good maintenance to make sure that the moisture levels underneath our home are kept at a level that helps prevents mold, mildew and pests. A new layer of plastic throughout the crawl space is all that’s needed, and I’m hoping as soon as the weather warms a bit we can knock this one out.

I hope all of our readers and HomeSpot users enjoy a safe and happy New Year’s celebration. ¬†Here’s to more organized and enjoyable homes in 2011!
