Kitchen Organizing Tips to Make Your Life Easier

December 10, 2013 by Becky Alexander-Conrad

It’s nice to have little tricks that help keep your home in order without too much effort. With the holidays  just around the corner when life gets so much busier and you often have visitors to your home, it’s a must. Chalkboard Calendar

Family Calendar

The old saying “the kitchen is the heart of the home” still fits the busy lifestyles most of us have today. Maybe even more so. With each child and adult having their own busy schedules it’s easy to lose track of who’s doing what and where without a family message center.

Having a designated location where your family can record their daily activities is as easy as having a large calendar in the kitchen. I like the idea of a chalk board calendar which can be easily made by masking off a grid and painting the wall with chalk board paint or using chalk board contact paper cut into 35 equal rectangles and placed on the wall as shown above.

Purging Your Closet in Four Easy Steps

October 15, 2013 by Becky Alexander-Conrad

Jeans and a t-top graphicFor someone who’s very obsessive about organizing I found it extremely difficult to take the time to go through my closet to get rid of clothing I knew I hadn’t worn in years. Maybe even decades.  Some of those garments have an emotional attachment, some still had tags on them.

My closet was packed to the point I could hardly get anything in or out. I was forced to devise a way to purge it. Read on and see if my system works for you. If it doesn’t sound like it will be sure to check out the tips I collected from family and friends at the end.

Since I’m a sentimental type I do allow clothing that evokes special memories a pass, no matter how long it’s been since it’s been worn. They can be placed in a memory box or if you have the space after purging you can leave them hung in your closet.

I found it best to dress in a basic pair of jeans and a T-top so you can concentrate on the garments you are trying on and not what else you are wearing.

Clever Home Storage Tips

September 12, 2013 by Heather Roberts

6 clever organization tipsHome storage is something people struggle with as the years go by. When we accumulate great quantities of personal belongings we are often faced with difficult choices: keep them somehow, donate them or sell them when we run out of space. Now if your storage space is more than limited, then you will have to find alternate solutions to the problem. The following tips are aimed to give you some help in those tasks:

Jewelry boxes

These can be used effectively if you don’t want to throw them away. Why dispose of something useful when you can utilize it in your home? You can clip them together to create some great storage for a number of small items. Those can range from pencils and pens to pretty much anything you have lying around. Use them as dividers in your work area or your home desk inside a drawer while they are glued together; use them as a makeshift combination of tiny shelves on a wall – the combinations are entirely up to you.
