Powered by a feeling of mystery and strength, deep black exudes great authority. A sleek door boasting frosted glass and glossy black offers a refined, contemporary edge.

Be it painted or stained, a brown front door sends a message of warmth, stability, and reliability. If wood works for you, a craftsman cut may also produce the organic note for which you’re hunting.

No matter what hue you choose, remember that bright colors work best in small doses. In much the same way that throw pillows and artwork add bright pops to a parlor, a vivid front door can punch up your home’s façade. Want a more classic concept? Mimic the color of the door in the shutters. And if you’re unsure about a shade, give it a test run using a virtual visualization program like Behr’s ColorSmart program “Paint Your Place,” which allows subscribers to upload photos of their homes and preview paint color combinations right on screen.
