Dooley has always been a highly reputable company, and we thought we would never go anywhere else. But they are absolutely NOT WHAT THEY USED TO BE!!
I can’t even begin to express how awful my most recent experience has been with this company. I would give them ZERO starts if I could. A technician came out February 2024 and sold us on the Halo filter. He guaranteed we would have high quality drinkable water and no need to buy salt or bottled water again. I questioned it, but he assured us over and over. He also convinced us to upgrade our water heater, which was old anyways. This all cost thousands of dollars, of course. But again, we know Dooley is reputable. Also, the equipment is supposed to be under a 10 year warranty.
First, the technician didn’t even know how to install the hot water tank. He had to call his dad on the phone for assistance. Then we were left with no hot water for over 24 hours. Since then, we’ve had nothing but issues with both the filter and water heater. A few months ago the whole water tank burnt up! We were without hot water for DAYS after several phone calls to Dooley.
Granted, they have made some attempts to correct the issues. Water testing, replacing the hot water tank, and giving us a complimentary water softener since they took ours out and said we wouldn’t need it. But the issues are still unresolved.
The brand new pipes are corroded. There is leaking that is ruining our floor! Fixtures in our house are ruined. One of our bathrooms was completely redone with brand new fixtures AFTER installation of the water filter, and you can see what they look like.
The company rarely returns my calls. It takes several days/weeks of calling repeatedly. They’ve sent techs out constantly since the installation. And guess what, our water has never been filtered as promised. We paid $7,000 for a filter that is NOT WORKING! The issues have not stopped since installation, which has been nearly A YEAR AGO.
I’m a very understanding person, and I know this situation hasn’t been fun for us or them. But I’ve been far too patient and kind. I have given them more than enough chances and time to make things right. I have been requesting a refund and disconnection for over two months. At this point, we are way past wanting to go elsewhere for our water services.
The owner first stated he would not give us a refund, because he gave us a “$1,500 water softener free of charge”. I have explained they can take the water softener back as well. We are done paying for equipment/services that are not doing what they are supposed to do. Unfortunately, they are still denying us a refund and disconnection.
I wouldn’t recommend this company to anyone. You call experts that you’re suppose to be able to trust to fix whatever problem you may have. In my case, I call with a failing septic system and Dooley’s recommends installing a Sludgehammer system to “extend the life of older systems”. Do not, under any circumstances, trust this company, or any other company for that matter, to install this system if yours is old and failing. IT DOES NOT WORK. I believe they knew what really needed to happen (a new septic system), or at least should have know that, but they recommended this Sludgehammer anyway. Now my wife, my 6 month old daughter, and I are out $7,000 and over a year’s worth of cleaning up septic backup in our house. I’m now having to work two jobs and sell as many things as I can, including a vehicle, just to pay for the loan to install a new system.
Note: In the photos attached, the septic backs up directly below where my infant daughter sleeps. When I asked Dooley’s why the system wasn’t fixing the problem, I was told to wait for it to work and to “conserve water”. That’s not so easy to do with an infant you’d like to bath on a regular basis. It’s quite humiliating to have to throwing buckets of bath water out of my window just so my wife and daughter can bathe. And Dooley’s just didn’t seem to care when I brought up the concerns, all they did was send guys out to check it, tell me to give it time, then leave. Instead of doing the right thing and being honest that the entire system needs replaced.
Additionally, when I asked for a refund for this system multiple times, I was ignored and essentially laughed at. The owner’s didn’t even have the common courtesy to call me directly and apologize or try to make it right in anyway. In fact, I never heard from them at all after 5+ phone calls in a four week span asking for answers. The right thing to do would be to give some sort of a refund for a service that did not work. They just wanted to give me another estimate on a “fix” for the 60 year old system for another $8k. This would have been like putting a bandaid on cancer. Nothing else is going to fix my old system other than a brand new system. My guess is I’m not the only individual who’s been subjected to this. Please do yourself a favor and go with another company, I don’t care if you’re unclogging a sink. Don’t do business with them, trust me.
About 2 1/2 years ago we called this company out to drain our septic tank. The technician didn’t drain the tank all the way because he said we had a crack in the tank and needed a new one and he still charged us full price for the drain. I wanted a second opinion but didn’t want to pay twice to have my septic drained soI waited until 03/2025. We just had it drained again by Dooleys out of Urbana and we were told the tank is fine. So I wouldn’t recommend the Dooley out of Springfield because obviously he was trying to take advantage of my wife since she works from home and was the one that was there when he drained it so if I could give this company a no star review I would. Buyer beware.
Jamie was excellent. Very professional. Gave me options as far as level of service. He was courteous. Placed a mat for the messy part of the job on my floor. Wore shoe covers. The cost was more than I expected but we have a new clean out placed and up and running. The next time there is a clog the clean out will take care of that issue.
I had a serviceman come out to diagnose my water heater and let me know what needed replaced on it. He was down there for quite a while and told me that I needed a whole new water heater because the electric line on the inside needed replaced, but there was no way to get to it, so I called the one 800 number on the water heater to order a new one under my warranty. The lady who answered my call told me that there are no inside electric lines on this type of water heater so that could not be the case. She then had the serviceman go back downstairs and use his multimeter to test the parts. He argued with her that he was not am electrician, so how was he supposed to know what numbers to get on this multimeter ? She walked him through it and she diagnosed that it was my top heating element that needed replaced not the entire water heater. He shook his head and insinuated that she did not know what she was talking about, and that once I replaced this top element that I would realize that I still needed a new water heater. He was wrong because once it was replaced, my water heater works just fine . I was told that this visit would cost me $79 when I called and scheduled the visit, but he charged me $128 for an “extended” diagnostic visit because he had already replaced the thermostats on my water heater while he was down there without letting me know or asking me if I wanted him to go ahead and do so because he “thought” that would fix the problem. When I asked him how much it would cost for him to put the heating element in since I had already paid him the diagnostic fee, which I was told would go towards the labor if they did fix it, he quoted me $599 to replace an $18 heating element which doesn’t take very long at all to replace (I ended up doing it myself and saving $581). The entire thing is just completely insane to me and I feel like he was trying to get over on me completely or maybe he just didn’t have any idea what he was doing?! A plumber who comes to service a hot water heater should know how to use the multimeter in order to diagnose the main issue. The entire visit is unacceptable to me and was not worth the $128 that I had to pay.
