Our experience with this company was that they were greedy and difficult at every turn. Here are some of the experiences we had:
– Tried to charge more than he quoted in every instance
– Tried to charge us for tasks we did ourselves
– We were very clear that permits needed to be pulled because the city of Lowell is rigid about that and he specifically instructed sub-contractors NOT to pull permits. This created a mess that we had to unwind ourselves with the city inspectors.
– At the end of the project he asked for final payment and we asked if the inspectors had signed off, he said they had. We called them and they had NOT. Bald-faced lie.
– He said he’d accept delivery of the new fridge. They then accepted a fridge with scratches all over the front and signed off on the condition, and they took the side door off the hinges and charged us $175 for their time, when the 42” front door was 20 feet away and they could have walked it right in.
– They left not just construction debris, but also their own trash from their lunches all over the apartment.
– They flushed a whole roll of toilet paper right before they left, clogging the toilet so we had to hire a separate plumber to unclog it. That’s just malicious behavior.
In 20+ years of landlording, this is by far the worst experience we’ve had with a contractor and that is SAYING SOMETHING. You have been warned.
Gordon has done several jobs for me. The biggest job was installing a heat pump, in the nick of time for the heat of summer. Now I’m using the heat pump to warm my house during the shoulder season. He also neatly installed an electric outlet at the exterior of my house so I can charge my Prius at home. I’m sure he’d install a fancy charger too, e.g. for your Tesla, but I didn’t need that. In this job, he dug a trench for the electric cable, replaced the ancient electric panel as well as installing a whole-house surge protector. I’ll have him back to repair woodpecker damage and various other issues in my 60 yo house. I have full confidence in him. I like that he employs apprentices to teach a new generation. He has an unrestricted contractor license.
As a residential designer I will only let the “A” players work on my house and My Dear Watson is one of a very few selected companies that can exceed my wife’s and my expectations. They were on time, flexible with their schedule, neat and clean!
