I signed these guys on for a project in October and was strung along for three months waiting for them to begin. Along the way, I would email and call them, often waiting weeks for a reply. I finally had to find another contractor to complete my project due to TP Howard’s inability to follow through.
Edit: In response to Mike’s comment here are some more details. Mike agreed to take my project at the end of October and they told me they would get to it “within a few weeks.” After not hearing from them for two weeks, I emailed asking for an update. No reply for 11 days, then I received an email notifying me one business day in advance that they would be beginning work on my house. I told them this didn’t work for my tenants and asked for more advanced notice in future. Once again I was told they would get to my job in a few weeks. This time I waited over a month for them to get back to me before finally emailing them asking for an update. No response. A week later I called the office asking for Mike to call me back. After two more weeks of no response from these guys I decided to find a different contractor for the job.
TP Howard was great to work with from the first interaction – both the office team and the guys who came to our house to perform the work. We originally had another contractor come out to repair our tankless water heater – before even touching the heater, “the other guy” who originally came out said it would be a minimum of $500 – $600 to even begin to diagnose the issue.
James and Byron from TP Howard’s crew were phenomenal. They called ahead of time, were prompt and communicative, and friendly and polite throughout the process. When they got here, they worked quickly to get the job done. Within a few minutes they were diagnosing the problem and on the phone with the manufacturer to check what all they could get covered for us under the warranty to save me money. Got the job done for under $400 all-in.
Was very satisfied and will not hesitate to reach out to them first in the future.
Update: TP Howard’s did contact me and I tried to call back but we did not connect. They mentioned using GPS monitoring which is great for speed, however whoever was basically driving in my trunk and drove right close to my rear fender as I was moving back over in the right lane, would not have been monitored by your GPS. Patience was necessary at that moment – for which the original review was left below.
Original post: Not sure I want to use this company if their employees are as rude as the drivers of their trucks. In my daily commute in the Asheville area, I can always count on T.P. Howard plumbing trucks breaking the speed limit and being rude about it. They will more than likely run you off the road after tailgating you because they can’t be patient for 15 more seconds before you can complete passing the car in the right lane. Relax! If you’re this impatient on the highways, and want to drive 70 in a 55 MPH zone, then I’m pretty sure I don’t want you working in my house. Just obey the rules of the road. It’s easy to do, and you won’t tick all the other drivers off around you.
Horrible service. Call ANYONE else. The older, gross man would not stop looking at my breasts. No less than 20 times, it’s like my eyes didn’t exist. Scummy. Second, I had to take my grandma to an important Dr. Apt and asked my friend to come house sit for the hour while the plumber was there. The plumber sent my friend to the hardware store to get his part, while the plumber was sitting in the driveway on his phone!!!! Charged $300 to sit in the driveway while my friend got the part, then he said he just glued this part to the water turn off. Third he didn’t put anything back together, which I found out a few weeks later. Fourth he was quoting $2k extra to install a hot water heater, and our handy man did it for 1/6 of the price. Scam artists, lazy, sleezy, gross energy.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY THEY ARE TOO BUSY, RECENT WORK IS POOR AND THEY JUST DO NOT CARE.
We have been clients of Tp Howards nearly 30 years. I know they are pricey but have always been dependable in the past. We have 9 rentals in Asheville and it has always been important that our renters are taken care of in a timely fashion. We use them at least 4-6 times a year. Josh Howard the son of the original owner has always been kind, caring and professional until today. His manager Mike and employee Eddie were incredibly unprofessional. We had them install a new water heater 4/24 and paid $2400. It took them 6 hours at $150 per hour. Our tenant called today and the hot water is not working. She is a single mom with 2 young kids and a disabled mom. They told us it is NOT an emergency and that they would call us back next week (today is Thursday) to see if they could schedule us. I expressed my displeasure being a long time customer (who actually calls to pay because their billing is so slow). My husband is a pediatric ICU doctor at Mission and can not leave dying kids to install a water heater in a timely fashion. I have referred many people to them in the past. The last one a colleague of mine was not pleased. Josh came out explained the job but that is not what was done and it screwed up her plumbing. I do not know what is going on with this local family owned company. As a local doctor and business owner I personally would have called the client (patient) esp if they requested.
